how we deal with ants :: terro

We get solicitors.  A lot of solicitors.

I estimate ~15% are bug people.

This is how the conversations usually go:

“Hi, I’m an exterminator from company XYZ.  Do you currently have a bug or pest problem?”

“Well, we’ve got some ants, but nothing too serious.”

“Really?  I could spray today if you’d like for $69.99 each quarter.”

“It’s ok, we use Terro, which works pretty well.”

“But Terro requires multiple applications and it doesn’t really get rid of the ants long term.”

“Oh really?  If your service gets rid of them long term, then why do I have to buy a quarterly package?  What would you be killing after your first visit?”

tumble weeds….buh bye.  You can’t Jedi mind trick me.

I think word has gotten out that we’re the neighborhood cynics as we haven’t had any exterminator solicitors in a few months.

Yes, we use Terro.  It’s safe for pets and kids, comes in a package of 6 little plastic trays filled with a clear syrup-like liquid.  The ants eat the syrup, take it back to the queen…and kill her off.

Here it is in action after just five minutes.

 

and here they are bellying up to the bar after 15 minutes…

The ants will go on like this for about 12 hours, then completely disappear….

…until the exterminators plant them in our yard next month!  🙂
