this piece was such a lame late 90s piece that i don’t even remember where i got it or why.
every time i walked past it, it begged to be repainted.
i do my best work late night….so i dragged her downstairs, camera in tow, and into the garage. it’s march and it was in the mid 80s today. then i drove just a few miles north and was socked in with dense fog and 59 degrees. brrrr….so cal weather is tricky!
the good news is that at night, our little town, which is just 4-5 miles from the ocean, gets a great cool breeze. so i popped the garage door open and got to work!
here she is after a single coat of Annie Sloan Pure White.
then i took a kids’ toothbrush to it while it was still a bit damp. sorry University of Michigan toothbrush…but once you’ve been dropped in the toilet, you’re mine for painting! 🙂
i want some of the dark wood to pop through…and i’m trying to achieve a more chippy paint look with this mini table.
mommy likes…

as i went in to wash the brushes, i saw these on the counter…hubby’s team came in 3rd in yesterday’s Toshiba Classic Pro-Am! then i found a great new piece of luggage, too. pretty nifty prizes!
{end side bar}
then i waxed with clear all over and really buffed it in. i didn’t want the dark wax to pick up too much…
and i thought i’d place it with my favorite shabby chic french door, one of my very first craigslist projects!
then i lightly brushed on some dark wax and buffed it out quickly. i focused more on the crevices and edges.
then i added the glass float my dad picked up on the beach in Taiwan in the 60s. yes, a real glass float.
the whole look is so beachy. i couldn’t be happier.
and the toothbrush did the trick. i didn’t even sand this piece at all! look at that corner…super layered and rustic looking.
i had this old knob in my spare parts box. not sure where i got it, but i think it works pretty well….except for the fact that i stripped the screw when trying to install the knob. metal shards flying all over. nice work, meesh. nice work.
of course i can’t leave this table decorated like this until the boys are a bit older.
why?
well…..
let’s just say that one of these boys tossed my camera off the bed while i was in the other room. guess who?
I love that whole rustic look /beach decor ,and I want to try it in my next project, where do you get that annie sloan paint from? good job!

Peinture in the SOCO Center in Costa Mesa is a great Annie Sloan stockist. Debbie is the owner and is amazing. If you’re not in the OC, you can find stockists in your area at anniesloan.com. Good luck!
lol too cute…but is it the obvious one? Or the smiling cherub?
Absolutely love the table and the doors! 🙂
