looking for some fantastic traditional home decorating and interior design ideas?
our friends recently remodeled this spectacular ocean view home in Newport Beach. bright whites are contrasted with touches of ocean blues, and they’ve also perfectly incorporated their love of east coast traditional decor.
as you enter, you’re greeted with this grandiose entrance and sweeping wrought iron spiral staircase. i love how the beaded glass in the chandelier projects onto the walls in a way that makes them look textured. the wall paneling throughout the home is fantastic and reminds me of Furness Library from my days at U Penn.
i stealthily took these pix during a party they recently had and will share the food and floral decor by the amazingly talented Heidi Ristau in another post. the hand-sawed dark wood floors are perfectly distressed and kept perfectly clean with a Roomba. i know, i had my doubts, too. there’s never a trace of the 3 kids’ footprints or messes on this floor. time to get a Roomba!
heirloom family pieces like this dresser are nostalgic. these tiny nickel lamps flank the dresser and provide soft light for the front entry so nicely.
look at this magnificent formal living room. the high ceilings and grand windows make this a great sitting room for curling up to read an old classic.
i just love how these flowers soften this table scape.
hello mr. frog! i’m sure he’s got a story or two to tell. he’s from a cute garden store in Germany that’s tucked away on a romantic little countryside road.
i grew up with these Chinese blue and white vases, but they certainly look a lot better on this fireplace hearth than they ever did at my Ahma’s house in Taiwan. 🙂
here’s a peek from the living room into the front entry. i LOVE that the kids’ baseball gear is sitting on that chair. how real is that?? and notice the custom air vent grates? such a nice upgrade from your traditional white boring ones.
this GORGEOUS formal dining room is so cozy with the dark blue grass cloth wallpaper, and oversized upholstered nailhead chairs. i love everything about this room and can just imagine the wonderful family conversations that occur during the holidays around this fabulous table.
the paneling. the wallpaper. yes, please!
oh, and the kitchen. be still your heart if you’re a fan of white carrara marble. if you’re going to do a white kitchen, this is how you do it. restoration hardware operating lights (which is what i call them…i’ve got no idea what they’re really called), carrara counters, subway tile backsplash, oversized stainless hood, white farmhouse oversized sink, paneled ceilings. no detail was forgotten in this kitchen.
even the computer desk has a perfectly appointed bead board-backed niche with lighting. soft close door hardware ensures that the kids aren’t banging the cabinets all day long.
the touches of white and blue tie in well with the Pacific Ocean which greets you out the back yard.
how about these accordion doors that bring the outdoors in? how wonderful and easy for guests to feel welcome inside and out.
white and blue paisley linen lamp shades. LOVE, though my husband would never green light this fabric. he’s got an aversion to paisley for some reason. so i’ll live vicariously through these lovelies.
how cute are these suitcases? just the right touch of industrial vintage imho.
step outside to this dark bottom pool and Pacific Ocean views beyond it.
i’m pretty sure those are metal restoration hardware hurricane candle holders along that back wall.
my friend Heidi Ristau catered this party and did such a wonderful job with the florals. hydrangeas, roses and peonies are some of my favorites. how pretty are they next to the industrial hurricane jars from One Kings Lane?
heres’a a sneak peek of the outdoor fireplace through a side door.
and the garage doors. oh the garage doors.
i wonder how many times the kids will be sneaking out through this window? 🙂
thanks for joining me on this tour. have a great rest of your weekend!
this is awesome! great pics of a beautiful house!
