vintage mini bar :: cocktail anyone?

i was driving through a fancy newport neighborhood with a friend a few weeks ago and we spotted this vintage metal thing.

we thought it was an ironing board, but upon closer inspection, it was what we believe to be a mini bar.

i wish i had before pix, but i don’t.  the entire thing was a glossy teal.  go ahead, use your imagination.  super fancy.

so i figured it was a good chance to practice using chalk paint on metal and shiny veneer and glossy paint.

i’m not sure what the purpose of the peg board is. anyone?

i used a variety of colors.  paris grey and an old white wash on the wood portions, and graphite on the metal.  i lightly sanded to bring some of the blue/green through.

i then used clear wax on the whole deal and it worked very well on the metal.

maybe this isn’t a mini bar at all.  i used sandpaper to scratch up the metal so that it wasn’t so perfect.  wanted to see how the paint would perform.  quite well, as you can see the teal peeking out a bit.metal painted with annie sloan graphite

i figured i’d try to use this to store shoes at our back door, but it just doesn’t work as it’s taller than our window and made looking out the window seem like sanford and son.  doo doo do do….

so, i listed it as a freebie on craigslist.peg board detail of vintage mini bar painted in annie sloan

and of course, i had about 10 calls about it within 10 minutes. dang!  should’ve put a price tag on it!old plywood peeling apart
