shabby chic guest bedroom update

this room is a continual work in progress, but it’s to a state where i can actually share some photos now!

the room is finally coming together.  i negotiated this room with hubby when we bought the house as everything other room we designed to be very masculine.  i just always loved the romantic, soft, shabby chic vibe and wanted to have a cozy b&b-ish guest room.

the painting is from one of my mothers-in-law who’s an incredibly talented artist.  this piece is of the crystal cove cottages in newport.  adorable little bungalows you can rent to sleep right on the beach in newport.  impossible to get, but still fun to try!

most of the items in the room are from craigslist or family heirlooms.  the headboard was a CL find that used to be a black ikea thingy.  i sprayed it sanded it to give it a worn look.

tiffany-esque lamp:  CL.  antique side table from hubby’s grandparents’ collection.  dried hydrangea from the garden.

this side table was my very first furniture refinishing project.  we got the table from my hubby’s family, but the wood was pretty worked.  so i figured, let’s try something here…and that’s when i got immersed in the blogging world.  thanks.

a good friend gave us the radio.  while it’s not super antique, it still works and serves as a nice piece for our guests when they want some music.  i picked up the pink french jar at goodwill.

another good friend gave us the antique fan, and the fabulous rocking chair is from my hubby’s family.  i’m currently using ikea sheers on the window.  they’re nice when the windows are open and a breeze comes through.

the chevron fabric on this rocker is still in perfect condition.  i’m not a huge fan of the pattern, but it’s definitely grown on me in the past year.  the blue is picked up by the wall color.

this is definitely one of the most interesting pieces i’ve ever refinished.  i was 8.5 months preggers when i saw this on craigslist, drove to a shady part of town, put this in the car by myself…and refinished.  PRE annie sloan discovery.  yowza.  🙂

i picked up this ladder in ’96 at the rose bowl swap meet.  i’ve always loved old, rustic, industrial, barn furniture.

the light at night softens the room so much.  i can’t wait to find the perfect shabby chic chandelier/fan for this room.

the bathroom walls still aren’t painted, and frankly, still needs more work.  but it’s fine for now.

i absolutely loved this french towel hook that i found at a shabby chic store in laguna several years ago.  i’d say this probably drove my inspiration for the entire room.  love love love.

the final touches for this room and bathroom are adding the old family photos in white frames.  will share pix of the pix when it’s all done!

what do you think?  wanna have a slumber party??
